The focus this month: Synergize!

Please conduct the EOY organizational and note-taking assessments (grades 4-5) the week of June 6th.
_____________________________________________________________________

EOG testing June 1st and 2nd:  Students will be taking their state EOGs on Wednesday and Thursday this week.  Ms. Perrell has shared a thorough and comprehensive testing plan.  Please carefully review.  Testing requires synergy of the entire school community to ensure our environment is conducive to testing and systems flow smoothly.  Thank you in advance for your help.

EOG pep rally:  For grades 3-5, May 31st at 1:00pm.  We will be showing another Bullock digital short.  Thank you to Ana, Scott and Katie for their leadership on the EOG video.  It is awesome!

EOG data reporting:  The North Carolina DPI has made some great changes to the data reports available from the EOGs.  Details about the reports are located here.  The updates will provide us with valuable information for summer school review/remediation as well as provide us with information on our instructional program as a whole.

Read to Achieve:  Testing to take place on June 7th for 3rd grade students only.

End of Year Checklist: Please continue to work through the End of Year Checklist here.

AR:  Please plan on completing the final AR STAR test after the reading and math EOGs are complete.  The testing window is May 31st - June 9th.

RtI turn-in:  RtI turn-in will be from June 1st-3rd.  Please see details in the email sent by Mrs. Stone on May 18th titled "RtI Folders- Important Information." The sign-in form is located here.

Bullock Alumni Walk:  Alumni of Bullock will be doing a graduation walk on June 3rd at 1pm.  We will again line the halls to cheer on our graduates AND Bullock alumni from Lee County High, Southern Lee and Lee Early College.  Our alumni will have a picture taken in their cap/gown with a pennant of their college destination which will eventually hang in our halls here at Bullock.  We are hopeful this will become a Bullock tradition for graduating seniors.  The event was coordinated by Bullock's very own Sloan Bycura and Ashley Dossenbach.  Such a fun way to synergize.  Good luck letters to these alumni would be another great activity for our students this week.

Bengalious Bee:  The Bengalious Bee will begin at 1:15 on June 3rd (immediately after the alumni walk) for grades 3-5.  Students will watch our 5th grade teams compete.

Grades: Please be sure to have your grades entered and finalized by June 1st.  Directions for finalizing can be found here courtesy of Jennifer Babb.

Election on campus:  We will have elections on our campus on June 7th.  They will be in our gym.  Please do not park in the upper quadrant closest to the main entrance.

Action teams:  I have reshared the action team spreadsheet.  Most grade levels have determined who will be serving on SIT, AIG/RtI, data and C&I.  Now it is time to start choosing where talents can be used in other areas of the school.  Every member of our staff should be plugged into an action team.  Please continue updating this spreadsheet with your big rocks. You can review the roles of each team on the action team list

Instructional reminder:  In grades 3-5, please continue to review math on our final day before the EOGs.  Remember to speak the language of success knowing and believing that every single child can show growth. We are almost there.

With testing behind us in grades K-2 please use the remaining 7 1/2 days for creative projects and reflective activities.  I have heard of some great plans for "Sharpen the Saw" day, Rock Out (in 4th), teaching cursive writing, and so much more.   If you opt to show a video, please show only one.  The video showing request form can be found here.

You can access an interactive PDF called "Critical Thinking and Engagement: A Schoolwide Approach" by clicking on the provided link. This resource includes some excellent ideas and resources to engage students in reflective activities and encourage critical thinking.

Reminder: Please conduct the EOY organizational and note-taking assessments (grades 4-5) the week of June 6th.

End of Year Checklist...reminder: Your can access the End of Year Checklist here.  You will not need to take items off the wall in preparation  for painting this year.  Long, Bradian, Stone, Lloyd, Rockwell, Waters, Schlott and Cole will have a unique summer pack-up plan to accommodate the YMCA.  We have been communicating separately.

Title 1 visit:  We will be visited by DPI on May 25th from 11:00-12:30 for a Title 1 audit.  A team will be here to tour the school, visit classrooms and talk to staff members about the use of title 1 funds.  We will be testing and reviewing that day.  That is OK to proceed with business as usual.

Quarterly Testing:  Quarterly tests for grades 1-2 will occur on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Please carefully review the testing plan located here

Science EOG in 5th grade:  Please be aware that our first EOG occurs this Thursday in 5th grade.  Please synergize to ensure our environment is quiet and academic for our 5th grade scholars.

Students stories come to life:  Our K-2 students will watch their original stories come to life when students from Lee County High School come to perform. The high school theatre students used stories written by elementary school students to create a theatrical montage.  Students should gather in the Depot at 1:00pm.  This is sure to be a special event for all involved.

Graduation walk:  I am thrilled to announce that graduating seniors will be visiting our campus at 10:15am on May 25th for a graduation walk-through.  Our students will get to see what it looks like to "begin with the end on mind."  We know the timing will be tight (it was the only time frame that would work for the busy seniors).  This will be a special event to share with our Lee county graduates.

EOG Video:  We will be filming an EOG video on Monday and Tuesday afternoon.  This will take the place of our schedule committee meetings unless you are still needining to meet.  Mr. Hurdt has done a phenomenal job planning for this fun "Sharpening the Saw" event.

5/23 (Monday) will meet in grade level chair rooms...

2:45-3- Kindergarten
3-3:15- 1st Grade
3:15-3:30- 2nd Grade

Work for students in BIP:  Please make sure students who are sent to BIP reflection or have been assigned ISS have adequate work.  This is a perfect time for review materials.

Paper supply...reminder:  The supply is low.  Please be conservative.

Action teams:  The steps in red below should be complete.  Please start thinking about where the remaining grade level members would like to serve.

Instructional reminder:  In grades 3-5, we are using NC Ready or Coach JumpStart for review matching the rigor and length of the EOG.  The Performance Coach for ELA is also an option.  In math, we should be using NC Ready, stretch math and TenMarks (not FrontRow).  The released EOGs should be used for practice.   Please include calculator practice in your instructional plan.
