Let's celebrate...
  • Ms. Cole for preparing an engaging, academic and engaging performance for our 4th graders.
  • Habit 7 teachers for sacrificing their time to synergize to prepare for the 4th grade performance.
  • Ms. O'Shaughnessy for always being willing to provide support to EVERYONE when they need it the most.
  • Ms. McVey and Ms. Waters for being flexible and helping to find solutions with some recent changes.
  • Ms. Lyon for writing lesson plans, teaching and coaching substitutes for our intervention class.  What would we done without you? What a lifesaver!

The Leader in Me Structured calendar: Please use week 8 of the “quick start” guide located at leaderinme.com at https://goo.gl/Pw6Irq

How are those Leadership Notebooks coming?  I saw students talking about and celebrating their ATB in a couple classrooms this week.  That is awesome.
  • At this point, students should be working on...
    • Creating an organized leadership notebook
    • Tracking literacy assessment and coloring in their ATBs.
    • Writing a Wildly Important Goal (WIG) that is from x to y by when.
    • Determining two strategies per child
    • Score boarding their use of strategies
Did you meet with your accountability partner this week to touch base on your personal goals?  Take time early in the week to plan how you will accomplish the goals you have set.  Put times/dates in your calendar.  Set alarms on your FitBit, phone, iPad or computer.  Ask your accountability partner to call you.  Don't forget to take care of you!!!

We will be starting our 7x7 personal journey together soon.  Details to come from the Lighthouse Team.

Monthly focus for October:  Be Proactive

Have you taught your student to use two-column notes yet?  It a great "go to" strategy to organize information.

  • Mr. and Mrs. Leave a Legacy:  Please submit the names for the Mr. and Mrs. Leave a Legacy to Jennifer ASAP.  It's time to send home the parent flyers to started generating votes for your representatives.  The top 12 will be selected on October 16th which is THIS FRIDAY!  Please help promote this as much as you can!
  • Fall Festival:  Have you signed-up yet?
  • Curriculum and Instruction:  The Curriculum and Instruction night will occur on October 22nd starting at 6:00pm.  Please start communicating that information in your class newsletters.  Title 1 information will be provided at 5:30pm prior to the event.  Ms. Shepard sent out a plan to the staff.  This is sure to be a great event for our families.
  • Paper emergency...reminder:  We continue to have a very low supply of paper.  Please minimize copies.  Use notebook paper, journals and workbooks as much as possible.  Our students should be using graphic organizers and
  • Safety and SIT Plan:  Thank you for reviewing and approving the Safety and SIT plan.  Both documents will be submitted for board approval.
  • New tardy policy at Bullock....reminder: In an effort to get more of our students here on time, we be instituting a new tardy policy starting 2nd quarter.  Students who have 5 or more unexcused tardies will be required to stay after school for a Learning Lab to make-up lost academic time.  The details are located at https://goo.gl/KJeSnd.  We have also started displaying a board outside that tells parents how many students were on time or late.  Accountability for all!
  • Quarterly testing:  Our first quarter tests will be next week on October 20th, 21st and 22nd. Ms. Perrell will be sharing the testing plan in the coming days.  Please buckle-down this week to prepare for those upcoming exams.
  • Instruction:  Explicit vocabulary instruction is paramount in all grades.  Students need to see and hear a word 12-17 times before it can be acquired into long term memory.  Please remember that seeing the word is an important component to students acquiring new vocabulary.  I have included a link to the Calderon 7 step method for teaching vocabulary.  This method is used by our ESL department and is a research-based strategy to help students acquire vocabulary.  A Frayer model (see Learning Focused lessons or see an example here) is another great "go to" strategy to help students build meaning for new words.
  • Big rock....literacy:  I know that we have so much going on.  Instruction/learning always comes first!!!!  Please remember to find time every day for students to read level appropriate books.  Also, please make sure to keep working on those reading logs so we can encourage students to read more at home.
