  • Teacher appreciation:  We hope you enjoyed teacher appreciation week.  The PTO and office staff so enjoyed planning a week full of surprises for you.  Thank you for all you do every week to serve our students.  We all know that you dedicate your time and money to make sure our students are provided with rich educational experiences.  What you do has the potential to change the world!  I would like to give a special thank you to Amanda Sullivan, Erin Borrell and Elizabeth Johnson who came in over the weekend and donated many hours in a labor of love for our teachers.  These ladies love you all and we certainly are blessed to serve their children.
  • PTO planning meeting:  We will have a planning meeting to create the master calendar for the 2015-16 school year on May 13th at 5:30.  We would like feedback from any folks who coordinate school-wide events so we can make sure events and fundraisers are spread-out throughout the year.  I would like to have Habit 7 teachers and committee chairs if at all possible.
  • EVAAS verification time:  The EVAAS verification window is open for teachers.  EVAAS is located at https://ncdpi.sas.com. Please verify and submit your rosters as soon as you are able.  The due date Friday, May 22nd.
  • No snacks at breakfast:  In order to ensure that our students are eating their breakfast, rather than junk food in the morning, the Dining Hall will no longer be serving snack foods at breakfast.  If students would like to purchase a snack, they should do so at lunch.
  • Pledge:  Please make sure you are saying the pledge each day immediately after the bell rings.  We will have a new plan for the pledge and morning annoucments next year, but for now please continue to use the current process
  • Punctuality:  It is imperative that teachers are on time for pick-up from Habit 7, returning from recess, leaving the lunchroom, and dismissing for buses.  Please help each other and set alarms to make sure we stay on schedule.  A small change in the schedule can have a domino effect down the road.  Thank you for synergizing to make sure our entire school stays on track.
  • Ms. Hairston's schedule:  Ms. Hairston is helping in classrooms throughout our building she no longer stationed in Behavior Junction.  Her schedule so you can find her should you need her is included below:
    • 7:45-8:05 - Start the day in Gross's room
    • 8:05-8:20 - Key-in discipline in PowerSchool
    • 8:20-9:30 - Feinstein
    • 9:30-12:10 - Gross

  • Breakfast system:  Students are served breakfast in the Dining Hall in grades K-2 until 7:50am.  After 7:50, K-2 students are sent to the classrooms to finish their breakfast.  If a students arrives between 7:50-8:00, they are not considered tardy and they are still allowed to eat breakfast. If the timing of a student's arrival presents an issue (and they are not technically late), please contact the parent to find a win-win to the morning arrival process.
  • Water:  Please make sure your kiddos have access to water throughout the day.  It is OK to have water bottles in cubbies or book bags for students to access.  Please make sure that all students are hydrating after recess especially as the temperature increases outside.  It is dangerous for our students to exert physical energy and be in the heat with hydration.
  •  Leader on TRACK:  We will have a bounce house for our Leaders on TRACK this week.  We will be sending out the schedule soon.  Students who have been written-up or have had reflections ending-up in behavior junction may not participate even if the class earns a golden ticket to qualify.  Encourage your class to synergize to celebrate learning.
  • iReady diagnostic window:  All students will need to complete an iReady diagnostic the window for K-2 will be from May 21st to June 9th.  The 3-5 window will be from June 4th-June 9th (after EOGs).  I know the timing it tight. We will need to work around the county and state testing schedule.  Thanks for being flexible.
  • IAM set-up:  Please set-up your IAM account.  The LEA code is 530, not the number provided.
  • Class rosters IMPORTANT CHANGE:  After a process of "seeking to understand" with grade levels and the ESL team, we have decided to cluster group students in grades K, 4th and 5th.  Please distribute ESL students evenly in grades 1st, 2nd and 3rd.  Please let me know if you have questions or concerns.
    •  You can access the roster template at http://goo.gl/P8NdEo.
    • Please submit class rosters as a grade-level in "portrait" view and as a hard copy by May 15th.  We will have self-contained AIG classrooms in 4th and 5th for the upcoming year.
