The Leader in Me Structured calendar: Please use week 3 of the “quick start” guide located at leaderinme.com at https://goo.gl/Pw6Irq. Classes should also be exploring leadership roles for their students. Resources are located at https://goo.gl/w56pSv.
Monthly focus: Private victories
|
Are your AVID student goals set? Is your AVID BOY assessment for organization complete?
AVID site team meeting is set for September 15th at 3:00pm.
|
- BOG testing: Testing will occur on Wednesday, Sept 9th. We will be testing in the 3rd grade hallway, Miss Johnson and Ms. Davis's room. Our second and third grade tutors will be serving as proctors during the testing time. Please be mindful of the testing areas to ensure quiet hallways. The Bullock testing schedule is located at https://goo.gl/586ajk.
- Habit 7 Change: Due to testing on Sept 9th, Mr. Martin will be holding PE outside. He will come to the classrooms to pick up students until testing is over.
- mClass: mClass window is open until Sept. 22nd. As a grade level, please complete the proper paperwork to secure a sub. Each team will need ONE prior approval and a leave form for each teacher. Submit this to Gail as soon as possible. The following dates have already been added to the Bullock calendar:
1st grade- Sept. 9th2nd grade- Sept. 16th
- Data notebooks: Please remember that the first step of our Leadership Notebooks is to record a weekly comprehension assessment. We will discuss goal setting (x to y by when) at the beginning of PLCs next week.
- Copies: We are moving through our copy paper at a very fast pace. We order our paper twice a year (same amount each time). I know that we require more copies at the beginning of the year, but please be careful of the number of items that are copied. I would hate to run out of paper.
- PDP and self-assessment in NCEES: Please complete your self-assessment by September 8th. Your PDP is due September 14th. Mrs. Perrell and I will be setting PDP conferences soon. Please make sure your PDP goals are SMART goal (more simply...from X to Y by when). You will need three goals. The SIT team is not providing the 3rd goal. However, in alignment with our SIT goals, at least one goal should be related to literacy.
- Mentors and peer observers: All mentors and peer observers have been paired in NCEES. Mentors, please make sure to work with your mentee to complete and review your mentee's PDP. I will send an email to all peer observers so they can "begin with the end in mind" to set observations during the year.
- All hands on deck: The first 20 minutes of the day is designated as The Leader in Me time. All staff without a homeroom will be available to assist during that time. Support staff can work with individual students, co-teach the Leader in Me mini lesson and/or help conference with students. I have included the pairings below. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

- Incredible Years nominations: K-2 grade teachers will be asked to submit the names of students who could benefit from a research study for behavioral intervention. Keep your eye out. You will learn more on September 10th.
- RtI: All RtI paperwork, spreadsheets, and parent conferences are due by September 30th.
- Title 1: Please make sure that you are documenting all parent contact (phone calls, conferences, etc.) for title 1 compliance.
- Y Learning: Please submit the names of students who you think would benefit from FREE after-school tutoring at https://docs.google.com/a/lee.k12.nc.us/spreadsheets/d/1_J0JNHiWYD_rtWD2f4UwOPNrkRTkr0cX5Q_X2HWAiOo/edit?usp=sharing by September 14th. The program will start on September 28th. This is a great opportunity for our children.
- Web Page Training: Joy Thompson will be here all day on September 10th to help with web pages during your Habit 7 time. The location is TBD.
- iReady: iReady is ready. Please make plans for your students to complete the diagnostic. You can work with Ms. Dossenbach to complete the diagnostic during your computer time as well.
- Instruction: Please refer to the instructional non-negotiables shared at the Opening Meeting and placed in our handbook at https://goo.gl/hQ3bTe. Please make sure your upcoming plans (starting no later than September 8th) include the elements noted.
- All students are required to read for homework every night and an accountability system (i.e. reading log, reading response, journal) should be in place and monitored by the classroom teacher. Teachers must ensure that all students have a level appropriate book to read at home.
- Kindergarten/1st = 15 minutes (75 minutes a week)
- 2nd/3rd = 20 minutes (100 minutes a week)
- 4th/5th = 20-30 minutes (100-150 minutes a week)
- Research-and evidence-based practices outlined in Learning Focused lessons, AVID, Rational Discipline, The Leader in Me etc. should be utilized in all classrooms.
- Graphic organizers, authentic writing exercises, collaborative activities and other researched bases strategies should be used.
- Instruction must be differentiated. It is not appropriate to create “high,” “medium,” and “low” groups that stay static for ELA and math throughout the year.
